The Golden Eaglets have trounced host Tazania 5-4 in the AFCON U-17 championship.
This was made known on Sunday via the verified Twitter handle of the Confederation of African Football, @CAF_Online:
Former Super Eagles midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju had expressed optimism on the Super Eagles doing very well in the forth coming Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt in June.
The ex-international disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria on Saturday, while reacting to the AFCON draws which took place Friday night in Cairo.
NAN reports that the Super Eagles are drawn in Group B with Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi, a group analysts have described as relatively easy.
Adepoju, however, stressed that the Super Eagles would need to prepare well and play as a team to go far in the competition.
In its line-up of players to watch, CAF had singled out the following.
Position: Right Back
Club: Ambassador Football Academy
He is one of the reliable players in the squad. Has been an integral part of the team from the outset and has contributed to the success of the team so far. Gentle-looking but he can be as hard as nail on his defensive assignments. He has good speed and often joins the attack when the need arises.
Position: Attacking midfielder
Club: Sudos FC
Languid looking but Alfred is of sterner stuff and he’s regarded as the engine room of the team. Played pivotal role in ensuring Golden Eaglets’ qualification for Tanzania 2009 and has been one of the super regulars in the squad.
Shuaib Oyindamola Abdulrasak
Date of birth: 10-11-2003
Position: Attacking midfielder
Club: OMA Football Academy
One of the latest additions to the squad after the Golden Eaglets secured their sub-regional WAFU B ticket but the young midfielder has impressed everyone in trial matches ahead of the trip to Tanzania. Though attack-minded with good ball sense, Abdulrasak is equally strong on the ball and can function in defensive roles as very well.
